Message for the Month of August 2026

August 05, 2026

Dear Fathers, Religious, Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Grace and peace to you in our Lord Jesus Christ.

The month of August invites us to lift our hearts to heaven as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This glorious feast reminds us that the Blessed Virgin Mary, having completed her earthly pilgrimage, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. Her Assumption is not only a unique privilege granted to the Mother of God but also a sign of hope and a promise of the glory that awaits all who faithfully follow Christ.

The Word of God assures us:

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.” (Luke 1:46–47)

Mary's entire life was a hymn of praise to God. Her humble "Yes" transformed the history of salvation. She teaches us that true greatness is found in obedience to God's will, in humility, and in generous service.

St. Louis de Montfort beautifully reminds us, “To Jesus through Mary is the surest, easiest, shortest, and most perfect way.” Likewise, St. Bernard of Clairvaux encourages every Christian, “When the storms of life arise, look to the star; call upon Mary.” These words continue to inspire us in a world marked by uncertainty, anxiety, and division. Mary remains our Mother of Hope, always guiding us safely to her Son.

Pope Francis reminds us, “Mary is the Mother who patiently and tenderly brings us to God, so that He may untie the knots of our soul.” Similarly, St. John Paul II, whose episcopal motto was Totus Tuus ("Totally Yours"), said, “In giving ourselves to Mary,

we are led completely to Christ.” Authentic Marian devotion always leads us closer to Jesus. Mary never keeps us for herself; she always points us to her Son.

As a diocesan family, let us imitate Mary's faith, simplicity, and love. May our homes become places of prayer, our parishes centres of communion, and our communities bear witness to charity, reconciliation, and hope. Let us especially pray for our youth, our families, the sick, the elderly, and all who carry the burdens of life.

As we celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we also thank God for the precious gift of India's Independence. Let us cherish our freedom by promoting truth, justice, peace, and harmony in our nation. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Where there is love there is life.” Let us also remember his inspiring words: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” May Our Lady of the Assumption intercede for our beloved India, bless our leaders and all its citizens, and inspire us to be faithful Christians, responsible citizens, and committed disciples of Christ.

During this Marian month, I encourage every family to pray the Rosary daily, participate faithfully in the Holy Eucharist, receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and practise works of mercy. Through Mary's loving intercession, may we grow in faith, hope, and charity, and one day share with her the eternal joy of heaven.

May Our Lady of the Assumption, Queen of Heaven and Mother of the Church, protect our Diocese, strengthen our faith, renew our hope, and lead us always to her Son.

May Almighty God bless you all abundantly.
